danbentonsmithJune 10, 2021

The European Central Bank keeps the headline eurozone interest rate at 0% and deposit rate for banks at -0.5%, in line with expectations. According to Moody’s, the ECB is unlikely to change its interest rate policy for “several years” despite a pickup in inflation. A key challenge for the ECB is the divergent trends across euro are countries which are at different stages of recovery. “While a recovery is now in sight, it will likely take longer for countries such as Greece, Portugal, Spain and Italy to return to their 2019 level of activity than for Germany and France, ” Moody’s said.
